Summer has arrived, and with it: warm weather, longer days, and the burning sun above your heads. Sporadic rain can happen in a flash, so residents are encouraged to carry umbrellas. This is the first of Diacht's months, so the city is bedazzled with red, white, and the occasional splash of blue here and there for decor.

If you are curious about the situation of the city at large, have a look at our current World Status Page!

PROMPT I: Hana-hacking
drawing of a girl sitting on the floor, covered in scattered flowers and flower petals

With the turning of the seasons, the weather warms up and Diacht's influence grows in strength. 'Tis the season to be honest with one another, because if you aren't, you may begin to feel a tickle in the back of your throat…

For those who have feelings repressed, secrets unaddressed, or maybe just won't confide in a friend when they're feeling depressed, the gods work in mysterious ways. Specifically, in the fact that the offworlders may find themselves coughing up flower petals. Whether petals of plantlife from Havenwell itself or another world entirely, the longer one goes without confessing their troubles or sentiments the more insistent their condition until they might even have trouble getting through a whole sentence without finding a corsage's worth stuck in their mouth. Speaking minor truths will lessen the effect a little at a time, while larger or more impactful ones will work to cure it completely.

While not painful or otherwise physically harmful, the affliction does feel awkward and very likely doesn't taste all that great. Not to mention it's going to be difficult to keep secrets when everyone can see you have a mouthful of flower.

PROMPT II: 'Cause I'd Get A Thousand Hugs
a painting of trees backlit by a full moon and covered in small lights

Yet another indication that the world is recovering is the reappearance of the Fairy Lights. As the weather turns warmer, these beautiful little insects take to the air for their mating dances at night, dimly and softly glowing like Earth's fireflies or lightning bugs. These tiny little bugs float through the air, flitting about as their bodies pulse with light. The Fairy Lights come in a multitude of colors from red to purple, turning the night into soft rainbows of light. They make their triumphant reappearance in two locations: the botanical gardens and the green belt that grew up where the old wall used to be. Their beautiful displays start once the sun goes down and stop at sunrise, and natives are delighting in their return by taking walks among them.

If offworlders follow suit, they'll notice that the Fairy Lights are attracted to those who come in pairs or more, especially those who engage in sustained positive contact with each other while among them. The Fairy Lights seem to enjoy it when people are touching and will land upon them, one of each color until a rainbow has formed - usually in a crown around the head. Once the rainbow crown of Fairy Lights is complete, that character will feel a pleasant calmness and a feeling of peace and happiness wash over them. For as long as you and your partner(s) are in contact, the Fairy Lights will stay and so will the peace they confer. Once contact is broken, one by one the little insects will fly away, off to find a new perch.

PROMPT I: Hana-hacking

He'd done a very good job staying out of sight and avoiding being noticed since he'd arrived and so far he hadn't caught anyone looking at him longer than a glance. Even his several-sizes-too-big-gray-t-shirt-that-didn't-really-belong-to-him* hadn't been drawn much attention. Sadly, for the shy, small, thirteen year old that didn't work as well when you make a scene in public.

You know.. like shriek.

So there he was standing on the sidewalk somewhere in public with probably people around, staring in total horror after spitting a couple of yellow azalea petals into his hand and panicking.

PROMPT II: 'Cause I'd Get A Thousand Hugs

In the midst of all the beautiful Fairy Lights came a white blur of fur and happy yips. The out-of-place arctic fox zoomed free along the trees and nature, jumping up to try and gently catch the Fairy Lights with his mouth. He didn't expect to succeed, but if he did, he very carefully let the Fairy go again on the nearest soft flower or pile of leaves he could find.

As much fun as it was to play with the Fairy Lights, there were other people who should be playing too! In a rare bout of bravery, when he spots someone alone in the woods with him (that doesn't look too intimidating) and maybe has something easy for him to snatch, he races by and catches whatever they're holding (a scarf or hat or whatever) and takes off with it. They'll thank him later! Running is fun!

Maglor | The Silmarillion

[personal profile] littorals 2021-06-23 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
I. Flower Bites
[Maglor is not prepared to discuss his difficulties with strangers. He hasn't truly conversed with anyone in centuries. He doesn't see the point in going into detail about himself; what good would it do? Yet the customs of this place do lead him inexorably toward social interaction. This is not necessarily unwanted, but difficulties do arise. How does one speak with others again? It used to be so easy! When addressed, he would rather keep conversation as simple and unremarkable as possible, no more taxing than is necessary. Unfortunately, that's not always possible. Such as when someone asks him if something's wrong.]

Oh, no. I am f—

[I am fine, he means to say, but the words don't seem to come. Instead, a handful of white petals tumbles from his lips. He's quick enough to catch them in his scarred hands, eyes widening. He tries again.

There is nothing w—

[Nothing wrong, he fully intends to say, but he finds himself faced with the same result. Only this time, the flower petals are yellow, instead. He gazes down at them in consternation, so small and soft in his cupped hands. He takes a step back.]

II. Fairy Lights
[There is something enchanting about the way the insects move and shine, and Maglor finds himself entranced by them. He feels the urge to raise his voice and sing to them, or maybe to spin in a dance with them, to twirl in tribute to their floating and glowing—although he has had no impact on their movements so far, as he came here alone.

For now, he limits himself to watching them. This display is stunning, and he cannot help but want to learn more.
]

Do you know much of these creatures?

III. See the Sights
[Maglor does not object to the robotic nature of Havenwell's inhabitants, who are very alien to him. He is more concerned by the fact that they are people, and he is unused to living among people. The thought of living in the middle of a city is—unthinkable. Maybe it shouldn't be. Maybe he should be glad to rejoin the company of others, but it's too much, too soon.

Instead, he finds himself traveling as far outward as he can, to the green belt that marks the location of the old city walls. Perhaps he can find somewhere in this green place to make a camp? No... everywhere, even here, seems too close to others. It's nothing like the isolation he's grown used to, and he feels too exposed, vulnerable. Even when he comes across a stand of potentially promising saplings, he has to shake his head as he mutters to himself.
]

No, no good.

[He's heard it's possible to go even farther. He glances toward the wall, thoughtfully.]

Devon loved spending time out in the green belt. It had noises that he actually knew, so it made it much more comfortable to wander around. He was enjoying the breeze ruffling his hair and the bit of sunshine that managed to filter through the leaves and touch his face when there was a sudden tug on the staff in his hand. It was quickly ripped out of his hand leaving him a shocked statue for half a second.

"Hey!"

He could hear the skittering of paws darting away from him and quickly chased after. For now he wasn't going to do anything drastic, but the fox might be getting iced if Devon fell behind. He couldn't let anything take his staff.

[personal profile] the4united 2021-06-23 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Devon spends most of his time in the green belt for much the same reasons as Maglor was there. He isn't used to cities, and he finds the noise in them highly disorienting. At the moment he's camped up in a low branch of a tree, one leg swinging freely. There's a staff with a purple ribbon attached to the top resting nearby, but it might not be totally noticeable.

While Devon had heard Maglor wandering, he hadn't seen any reason to get involved with the other's musing. Or at least he hadn't been intending too. Now that Maglor was standing so nearby and was clearly looking for something he wanted to at least try to be helpful.]

Is there something specific you're looking for?

[personal profile] wyldghost 2021-06-23 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Fortunately for Devon, this fox somehow knew the concept of staying close enough to keep his playmate engaged in the game. He went running in circles around the man taunting him with the chance of getting his stick back before quickly diving back out of reach. Weee!

Ghost got a few more meters away before dropping the 'stick' and he waited watching Devon eager for what the man might do next. He let out a couple fox cries to encourage the man to keep playing with him.

[personal profile] the4united 2021-06-24 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Devon heard his staff drop and reached out with a little bit of air magic to determine exactly where it was. Once spotted, he flicked enough power at it to send it flying back toward his hand. He caught it easily and settled it upright on the ground next to him where it stayed standing without anything even touching it.

He promptly crossed his arms over his chest and sent a mock glare at the fox.

"What do you think you're doing?"

It was the same type of reaction he gave to Fang's pups when they were misbehaving, and he always came off a lot scarier than he was.
wyldghost: (Head Tilt Fox)

[personal profile] wyldghost 2021-06-24 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Ghost stared in amazement as the stick moved on its own! The man had magic! He started to creep a little closer to see but then sprang back when he was glared at. He whined pitifully. How did you do that mister?

He flicked his tail and flattened his ears. Was their play over? Whiiiiiine. Don't let their play be over! That'd be so sad! Hmm. Was there anything else on the guy he could play with? No, he didn't see anything and you shouldn't make the magic man upset. But playing was so fun!

He crept a little closer and whined again at him.
the4united: (trying not to laugh)

[personal profile] the4united 2021-06-24 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Devon tried to keep his face stern. He really did. Just like with the pups though he quickly lost that battle and his from dissolved into a warm smile and a laugh. He knelt down and reached a hand out.

"Come here. It's okay. I'm not mad."

Not really at least. Besides, he couldn't ever stay mad at an innocent that hadn't caused any real harm.
wyldghost: (sfox31)

[personal profile] wyldghost 2021-06-24 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Ghost watched curiously as the magic man reached out to him. He'd seen that several times before on the sept, the kin beckoning to the lupine like they were dogs. It would offend the wolfs but.. he rather liked being pet. It was just strange, since he didn't know this human. He seemed nice though.

He came closer cautiously. He sniffed at the man's hand before giving in. Within seconds, he was falling all over himself to get as many pets as he could. He was totally failing on acting like a proper wild fox here, but he didn't care. It had been a long time since someone had been willing to play with him and this man seemed nice.

[Maglor starts slightly, not out of fear so much as the fact that he's grown unused to being addressed. Cities aren't part of his recent experience either, and the nearness of the population takes some acclimating.

He pauses to take in the sight of Devon in the tree, thoughtfully. While he's perfectly willing to speak graciously to the robotic denizens of this place, he's more used to others like himself. Devon may not be from his home, but he is less alien. After a moment, he nods.
]

I'm looking for—

[A slight pause, as Maglor struggles to find the right words for what he's looking for. He doesn't have a specific destination in mind. He's used to broad, empty expanses of wilderness. To wandering, which isn't exactly possible here. Of course, what he's used to isn't necessarily ideal, but he still feels restless.]

—somewhere to rest.

[Somewhere to stay sounds too permanent; he isn't entirely convinced of the constancy of this place.]

While Maglor currently has an uneasy relationship with crowds, and he still feels oddly like he is wandering in a dream, the sound of a shriek cuts through his reverie and grabs his attention instantly. He turns and frowns, the expression of horror and panic that he glimpses on the young person's face unmistakable.

He can't simply let this go.

Eyeing the yellow petals, the very tall Elf gently lowers himself to be more on a level with with the small thirteen year old. He smiles. No sense adding alarm to alarm.

"Oh, hello. There's no cause for worry." Even if there is—surely something can be done about it, and it's better not to panic. "I'm here to help."

Ghost's heart was pounding in his chest rapidly. His mind was reciting a prayer to Gaia begging her not to let him die, so he didn't notice someone approach until they were speaking to him.

With a startled gasp, he whipped his head around and found a man next to him. He took a step back, but didn't go any further. He studied Maglor with his light blue eyes for a moment, debating what to do.

Finally, he looked down at the flower and held it out. "I don't know how I got a poisonous flower in my mouth."

Alphinaud Leveilleur | FFXIV

[personal profile] aunitedeorzea 2021-06-24 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
Hana-hacking;
[Alphinaud was not necessarily a secretive person by nature. Sure, he had his own concerns and life that he opted out of talking about, but he didn't have a reason to withhold information in most cases. Many of his concerns were tied to his own shortcomings and regrets that he tried not to linger on for too long. There were moments when he found himself thinking a little about the past, though.

It's his own problems and as such he didn't want to trouble anyone with them. That was fine in theory, but coughing up flower petals was anything but ordinary. Depending on how long he decided to settle on his thoughts alone, it might get worse over time. Anybody care to see what's ailing the young Elezen?]

'Cause I'd Get A Thousand Hugs;
[Still new to Havenwell, Alphinaud has been wandering around the city to get more acquainted with the locale that he was going to be for an unknown amount of time. There were indeed other things to worry about right now back home, but it wasn't like there was much to do while stuck here. He couldn't even begin to understand everything about a place like this, but hopefully, time worked differently here. If not, Doma was... probably not going to be freed any time soon.

Instead of focusing on something he couldn't help here, he decided to use his time otherwise to adjust. He eventually found himself in the botanical gardens when the Fairy Lights lit up the night sky with a show of colors. Taken in by their beauty, he stopped to observe them for a while, not realizing he'd accidentally run into someone else.]

Oh, my apologies. I was just so taken in by the lights.

DiNA | Fallout 4

[personal profile] d1_m4 2021-06-24 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
It was difficult for DiMA to enjoy this new world, the second chance he'd been given. No matter how much better this place was than his home, how much safer, cleaner, and happier, DiMA would always long to return to the island, to his friends and family. But he knew it was impossible. He was dead there, executed for crimes he only recently remembered committing. The deities of Aellyn had granted him an a new life by bringing him here. Who knows what would have happened if they didn't intervene. Did robots get an afterlife? Did anyone?

All these changes were wearing him out. He needed a quite place to reboot his mind. Finding a clearing in a hidden away section of the gardens, he sat on a bench to rest, powering down to sleep mode.

While he 'slept', the little fairies eventually found him, all by himself. This wouldn't do! Clearly this person was desperately lonely! They needed to help this poor robot.

Some of them stayed behind while the majority flitted off to get a friend for DiMA to play with. They zipped and zooped high and low through the garden until they finally found someone. Making urgent little fairy noises, the little swarm grabbed onto who they found, pushing and pulling them towards the clearing.

Wildard?

[personal profile] songofthewind 2021-06-24 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Sitting among the branches of a large tree, reclining against the rough bark, sprawled a lethargic looking young man with wine coloured red hair bound in a thick plait over his shoulder. Cloudy blue eyes followed the path of a green firefly with curiosity. The corner of his lips curved up into a smile as he lifted a hand and extended his index finger for the little bug. To his delight it landed there, right on the tip of his finger.

"Hey, lil one." He'd murmur to it in a low, pleasant drawl.

The sound of something running through the underbrush caught his attention then, and he turned his eyes away from the bug and down toward the forest floor to see a streak of white. A fox? So far he'd only seen alien looking creatures. That was the first Earth-like entity he'd seen so far. He gave a flick of his finger, sending the firefly back into the sky before he sat himself up, turned and dropped effortlessly to the ground, landing in a crouch that brought him low enough to get a better look at the fox.

"Hey, boy. Where did'ya come from, huh?" Shu asked and stretched out a hand toward it. "You friendly?"

Ghost stopped and when he heard something land behind him. His ears perked up and he looked back. Was he being talked to? His head tilted to the side as he crept about a meter closer, curiously looking over the man with the outstretched hand.

He sniffed the air and was disappointed when he didn't smell anything like food in his hand, but he wasn't disappointed enough to run off either. He'd been without someone to play with for weeks now. Could he chance it.. just this one?

He let out a whiny kind of sound and crouched lower. He was still about a half a meter away, but couldn't find the courage to get any closer.

Maglor examined the flower briefly. Unfortunately, though he would ordinarily be able to identify most plants immediately, the plants of this world were not always so familiar as the flora of Arda. Therefore, he didn't recognize the bloom as poisonous, but he didn't doubt Ghost's identification. He nodded. "You don't know how—? That is odd... but then, you did the exactly right thing by spitting it out right away."

He kept his tone light, although he wouldn't discount the seriousness of Ghost's concern. "Do you feel all right?"

He shook his head and moved ever so slightly closer to the nice man. "I was just walking around and felt it in my throat. I wouldn't put something like that in my mouth. Do you think it's a curse?"

His frown deepened as he mentally 'checked' if he felt anything wrong with his stomach or head or throat. "It didn't taste very good. They don't usually have shamans in the city right? I forget what they're called."

Shu didn't move, he kept his hand still, remained crouched and as non-threatening as he possibly could. Not that he really looked all that threatening honestly. With his windblown hair with two leaves caught within it, the smudge of dirt on his cheek and his rumpled clothes, and then that big smile stretching across his lips, he looked anything but dangerous.

Still he wouldn't have been surprised if the little guy took off running. The fact he had turned and was approaching was amazing and magical to him and he wondered if he could actually get it to come over?

"S'ok, not gunna hurt ya, boy." He cooed in that same, warm and low tone. Shu was trying his best not to scare the poor pup away.
wyldghost: (jumping fox)

[personal profile] wyldghost 2021-06-25 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
The man certainly looked like a kinfolk with how unconcerned he was with dirt. He'd seen some of the fussy humans be weird about it in the village. That was a mark in this man's favor. He crept a little closer. He was talking quietly and hadn't moved like he was going to hurt Ghost. That was another plus.

He sniffed the man's fingers now that they were almost touching and licked them. When the man moved, he jerked back slightly but then came right back. This time even closer, pressing his face against the man's hand, nipping playfully at his fingers gently.
songofthewind: (pic#14992870)

[personal profile] songofthewind 2021-06-25 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
He hadn't meant to move really, but his leg had started to cramp up and he'd shifted just a hair and a wave of disappointment washed over him when the fox moved back. Shu worried that little lick was the closest he'd get to touching a fox, when the little guy proved him wrong and came closer again.

Shu's smile brightened as that soft, fluffy head pressed into his hand and he let out a low breath of a laugh, still afraid of scaring the pup.

"There, see? Nothin to be afraid of." He said as he moved his hand carefully so that he could rub behind the foxes ears. "Pretty tame, huh? You wanna play, is that it?"

He couldn't remember the last time someone rubbed his ears. No, that wasn't true. He did but.. he didn't want to remember. It felt like years ago instead of weeks or months- he wasn't all that sure now. What he did know was that he'd been alone since then and maybe this was a stupid risk to take, but he wriggled closer and closer before flopping over at the man's feet.

[He nods and gives his own faint smile in return. The colors and lights are so intense, and the movements of the insects seem to have intent—in the way he's observed them gathering toward those who travel together. It makes him curious.]

It may well be magic. Perhaps the gods of this place have some hand in their dance?

[They remind him of something Yavanna might have made to brighten the forests of Aman.]
