Havenwell is normally a beautiful city - all tall spires and pure white stone glistening with gold against a blue sky. Now, it's still quite lovely, but it's marred. The wall that surrounds the city has a large glimmering hole broken through the stone and the buildings are missing bits and pieces here and there. The city is still reeling from the aftermath of its siege when a new set of souls are drawn to its shore. Good luck, new arrivals; and please excuse all the dust.

two fingers together with smiling faces drawn on
PROMPT I: Buddy System
With all the changes and the fear of a secondary attack lingering, the natives are a lot more protective of their newest arrivals. When new characters begin to appear at the temples, they receive the welcome speech, get their communicators and the simple map of the city, and a warning to stay away from the walls. Then they get taken to the front of the temple by a helpful robotic priest. Rather than turn the newcomers loose right away, they pull someone seemingly at random off the street and push the two people together with a cheerful, "It's dangerous to go alone, so please show our newest resident around. Please be buddies!" They wait until they're certain the pair is going to be moving off together before going back inside.

They try to place a new arrival with one of those who previously arrived, but who can keep track of all that, right? Characters may find themselves thrown together with an actual veteran or with another new arrival who only came here a day or even just an hour before them! Good luck helping each other out, offworlders, and don't lose your buddy!

PROMPT II: The Havenwell Archives
Lasohm is another month that belongs to Ohma and after such a vicious attack, a small group of citizens decide that it might be great for the offworlders to help with something important to the feline god. These citizens are marked with a sash with the sign of a quill on it, a decidedly antique symbol considering how technologically advanced the people are. They hand out fliers to any who will take them, offering a small amount of Dora in compensation to any who will help the Havenwell Archives repair, catalogue, and restore any books damaged by the attack.

The Archives is a large building in the south and its doors, which have been sealed shut until now, are slightly ajar, allowing people entry. Head to the Archives and you'll be greeted by one of a handful of robotic citizens, all wearing that quill-emblazoned sash, and directed to a small room where you and other offworlders are put to the task of reassembling history texts that have fallen into disrepair or reviewing work that earlier offworlders completed, fixing any glitches that might occur in the text. Most of the writing is illegible, but it seems that these books are important to the Archives for more than just the information contained within. As you work, you might notice that talking and sharing information about yourself or engaging in physical contact near these books with the other people in your room makes the text on your pages a little more legible, a little easier to read and understand, and easier to fix.

PROMPT III: Virtual Research
a virtual first-person view of hands reeling in a fishing rod
After the attack, every part of the city is on repair duty and the means the Entertainment District as well. As new arrivals wander the city, they might be called into one of the numerous Virtual Reality cafes. These cafes vary in layout, but most have areas for the natives to plug directly into the machines and other areas which have older looking virtual reality helmets that allow flesh bodied people experience the games. For those who need assistance with their sensory inputs, basic options like audio descriptions of visual scenes, enhanced audio and descriptive speech, closed captions, and crude mobility chairs are available. A handful of cafes have other options like direct visual or audio cortex stimulation to simulate vision or hearing, or suspension tanks to allow simulated movement, but these are currently unavailable due to damage.

All of these facilities are, unfortunately, under repair. The direct plug-in systems are easier for the robot natives to fix because they can do the most important part of it - testing - by themselves. But for the helmets and other interface systems, they need your help. Naturally, they'll pay you for the work, but they need the offworlders to play the available games and record any areas where they find glitches. Playing with a partner increases your chances of finding and fixing any issues, so feel free to log in for free for once and test any of the following games:

  • Big Bass Fishing
  • The beautiful lake has blue-green waters surrounded by forest and rocky, reedy shores. You and your companion are on a small single-motor fishing boat and you have fishing gear - two poles in the water. As the game starts up a read-out announces the objective: Catch the largest fish before the time limit ends. What's the time limit? ...Well, that's your first glitch because it reads as static. Might as well start fishing though, right? It doesn't take long to catch a few regular sized fish, nothing too exciting, and then? You get the big one - it bows your fishing rod nearly in half as you reel it up. The fish leaps into the air and you realize this is your next glitch because the fish hangs there - the size of a minivan - and yells, "BIG. BASS. FISHING. ATTACK." The fish slaps its fins and tails at the boat and now you and your fishing companion better fight this fish or you'll end up in the lake or worse.

  • A (un)Familiar Experience
  • Jump into the life of the temple familiars and see life from their perspective! Choose the temple, any temple is fine, and be transformed into a fledgling rainbow dragon, a purple mouse, a white raven, or a blue feline. You're free to move about the virtual confines of the temples and, in fact, you can even interact with other familiars in their temples - who may be other players in this game. Play, climb, try to get your fledgling wings to fly, tumble about with the other mice, enjoy your simple life as an animal! --or you would if you weren't an insane size. Rather than being a small mouse, you're the size of a horse. That fledgling rainbow dragon? About the size of a fly. The building sizes are off, too - one might have door that's 30 feet tall, but a ceiling that's only 12. Everything else seems fine, but those sizes? Well, you better figure out how to get around that.

  • Robot Crossing
  • Logging in with another character will net you a little farm and a variety of games to choose from:
    1. Pick and harvest as many Aellyn vegetables and fruits as you can before the timer runs out! The more you pick, the better your score. Work together with your partner to clear the field in any way you can. Strangely, once you finish clearing a tree or a field row of their bounty, they seem to magically refill when you turn your back. Strangely, when the timer runs out? It flashes 00:00 and the game...doesn't? Stop? In fact, the fruits and vegetables just keep multiplying and multiplying and if you don't hurry up you might just get buried in them all!
    2. With a partner, use the giant slingshot to launch comically large fruits into a garden patch of other colored fruits. Match a line of 3 or more similarly shaped fruits to clear it from the field. The more fruits you can clear, the higher your score - aka welcome to Fruit Crush. Stack lines of 6 or more to get shining clear diamond fruits that clear the entire row and snag yourself some bonus points. Or they should, but whenever you clear away a matching set, the fruits explode, sending fruit bits and juice everywhere - most notably on you and your partner. Still, the game is going on and it looks like it won't stop until you finish, so good thing it's all a computer game, right? Sure feels real though - reeeeeeally sticky.
    3. You and your partner(s) are given a magical golden pumpkin and it's your job to grow it into the largest pumpkin possible. Why? There's a county fair of course and the largest pumpkin wins! But how do you grow this pumpkin? Well, for whatever reason? This pumpkin is already the size of a grizzly bear and it just won't stop growing! You and your partner better find a way to stop it from growing out of control or you might get (virtually) crushed! You could do a song and dance routine together to touch the pumpkin's soul to teach it moderation or calm its insane vegetable puberty. You could hold hands and share stories and entertain the pumpkin until it feels satisfied that it's grown enough. You could just hack and slash at it in an attempt to reduce its unwieldy bulk. The possibilities are endless and so is the pumpkin's growth, so you better hurry!

A. Buddy whomst

[Regardless of whom the robotic priest pushes him toward, Somnus turns his attention to the nearest building that's missing a section of its spire. He seems less interested in socializing—and more, in understanding the state of this world—as he neglects to so much as introduce himself.]

The damage appears recent. Do you know what happened?

B. Wanted: reading glasses

[If nothing else, Somnus is patient. Years upon years of waiting have affected his sense of time enough that it's no trouble to sit there for hours on end, poring over the illegible texts. Sadly, though it doesn't show on his impassive mien, he's not made much progress for all the time he's spent on this endeavor.

He might as well be dead in his seat, what with how quiet he's been as he stares down the same page for the fifteenth minute. Perhaps someone should wave a hand in front of his face and check his pulse.
]

C. Vidya games

[Somnus stands inside one of the cafes, looking thoroughly out of place in his dated attire. In his hands, deposited there by a robotic pair, sits a helmet. Play the game, they told him, though chances of success are higher with another player. He glances about before addressing the nearest flesh-bodied person.]

If you require a partner, I will accompany you.

[personal profile] notyuvan 2019-10-21 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
I.

[The tenno does not like being touched.

Not because of any trauma- okay maybe a little bit of trauma that included blinding a beloved mother-figure- but just because she knows she's dangerous. Even with her amp strapped to her wrist to help channel her Void abilities.]

Hey-!

[What if she accidentally fries a robot? Or she finds Umbra in this weird city and it takes offense to its operator being pushed around? Hopefully the body she's shoved into as her 'buddy' is the tolerant sort.]

III.

[It's like a dream. Like she's back in the Reservoir on Lua, dream-controlling her Warframe. Or just sleeping again, while she and her warframe were frozen, except it's her. Not Zephyr or Mag or Harrow.]

Fishing

[This feels odd. She knows what a fishing rod is but she can't remember ever having used one. One Cetus and in Fortuna, she just spear fished. In a warframe, of course, but her warframe couldn't hook into these systems. Or they could, she just wasn't willing to let anyone tamper with the surrogate body she usually inhabited.]

So, uh... I don't know how to do this... Sorry.

Robot Crossing 1

[While she may be more physically hale in these games, she'd rather not mess with giant slingshots or try to grow a pumpkin. Nara and plants? Not the best combination. Ordis barely tolerated a kubrow on the orbiter- or so he claimed.

So she signs into the farm and the objective to collect as much fruit and vegetable pops up. That doesn't seem too hard.]

So, up and down a line?

NETWORK.

[There's what looks like a teenaged girl on the screen with cropped teal-colored hair and orange-yellow eyes. There are what looks like small pieces of metal attached to her chin and along her cheekbones, as well as a thin tiara-looking circlet.]

Hey, uh... Probably sounds odd but-

Has anyone seen what looks like a metal body around? I-it's not! A body, I mean. It's tall, black with gold trim, looks kind of like it has wings on the forearms?

It's important to me. And kind of rare. Especially here, it's the only one I have a link to. So I'd like to find it.

WILDCARD.

[This is not exactly what he was expecting after wrapping up at the Temen-ni-gru. He remembers speaking with Lady and handing her back her weapon, but waking up in a strange place being talked at by a robot is kind of a leap from slaughtering countless demons on the wrong side of the veil.

Maybe it's another trick? Maybe what they're telling him is actually truth? Whatever it is, congratulations. You've been saddled with a rather surly looking teenager with a sword strapped to his back and guns holstered.

He smirks.]

So, you gonna show me around?

[Unconsciously, his hand drifts over his chest, to where there's something decidedly missing.]

[You need money to survive. Dante knows this. He had to learn this the hard way, but he doesn't have a money guy here and he certainly doesn't get the jobs he's used to taking. He's reluctant as hell, but he eventually goes to the archives in order to earn a little bit of cash.

It's fucking bullshit, unfortunately. His eyes glaze over the unintelligible writing and he wonders if he's done enough to get paid, already.

He drags a hand through his hair, groaning. This is worse than navigating a goddamned demon tower. Someone save him.]

virtual reality;
Games, huh?

[He's holding the helmet in his hand, turning it over. He can't remember the last time he played a game - unless you count everything Vergil was playing at as a game, it's been years. They definitely didn't have games like this, either.

He looks over, a cocky grin on his face.]

[ Despite his insistence that he'll be fine, some poor unfortunate soul has a boy shoved their way. Hardly young by any means, he's wearing simple jeans and a dark hoodie as if trying to pass without notice. A solemn expression and bright green eyes turn, facing the stranger they've been paired up with and drawing a tighter line with their lips. ]

Sorry for the trouble...

[ Not the talkative type, it seems. ]

2. Research Away!

[ This is far more up to Yuusaku's preferences. A quiet building with bookwork that he can sink his attention into? Yes please!... Getting paid helps, though he isn't sure how much it's worth.

Set up on a table with several books open and set out around him in a neat semi-circle, the deep furrow of his brows from concentration makes it rather clear he's not making much progress. None of these books have legible text! How's he meant to figure them out? Try as he might, there doesn't seem to be a logical code.

After some time, he simply sighs, putting his head down and taking a short break before resuming.

Pyra/Mythra/Pneuma | Xenoblade Chronicles 2

[personal profile] pyrafect 2019-10-21 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
A: let’s hold dem hands
[ Plucked from her slumbering, sealed state in her world and thrust upon a stranger to explore a recently-ravaged city, Pyra appears, perhaps, calmer than most would expect: she greets you with a nod, as well as a quiet pardon for being abruptly ushered in your direction by the priests. She stops just short of actually colliding with you. Hello there. Hi. She blinks at you. ] Ah....

[ This could be more awkward, but her surprised expression easily melts into a warm smile once she seems to regain some of her bearings; yet to those who are perceptive enough, they may read how... sad she appears regardless. ]

Well? [ She offers a hand, or should you be willing, she takes yours into both of hers already. Her touch is notably warm, her demeanor affectionate. Looks like she’s getting right into offering touch and contact as instructed. Her voice is light, welcoming; she tilts her head, looking at you almost expectantly. ] Shall we explore together?

B: Wow are they gonna patch that up or what
[ This city has seen better days, and she marvels at how quickly it seems to be recovering from the damage. With a hand moving up to cover her lips, she gazes warily at the significant breach in the surrounding walls. ]

How awful... [ Her murmur is soft with concern, and her eyes are far more somber than one would expect for a total stranger to feel for a completely foreign city, much less one that she had been unwittingly taken to. ]

What happened here...

[ A battle, obviously, or a deliberate attack. But the city still thrives, the people still live, and life goes on.

If only the same could be said of the home she had left behind. ]
...And is there any chance of it happening again?

C: It’s like we’re in a book club
[ Within the library, she selects one book to remove from the shelf only to realize that it won’t budge. Why? Because you are tugging on the opposite side of the bookshelf. Stopping to let you take the book for yourself, she waves through the gap created by the removal of the tome. ] Oh—

[ In the dim light of the building, her crystals adorning her glow a soft, teal-emerald, their energy silent and still. She waves, flashing the light of one of them that’s situated upon the back of her hand. ] I believe that book goes to a set with this one...

I have the rest on a reading desk, if you care to see.

D: poppin bottles in da temple... just kidding
[ Which temple? Any of them. Should you be within one of them, you will also find Pyra there.

It’s rather nice, she thinks, to not be known here. To not have others fear her. To not have the acolytes revere her as the daughter— the sacred tool, the weapon— of the god of her world. Her hand curls over the crystal upon her chest as she looks upon the statue of the deity. In her world, the Praetorium had never dared to depict her father’s likeness...

Noticing that you are also an otherwolder, she decides to ask: ]

Being in this world... means that we have all become worshipers of these gods. [ Her eyes remain upon the statue, voice respectful but also noticeably puzzled. The words come out slowly and thoughtfully, as if she has never once paid respects to a faith in her life. Nevertheless, she seems earnest in her question as if she wishes to learn more. ]

Am I understanding that correctly?

[He's not sure how the temporal shift got him here of all places when he was supposed to be going back in time, but here he is. He's never traveled forward in time, or to another world, but there was a first time for everything. Just like being kidnapped to an alien(?) robot world was a first. And not that long ago, he'd become human for the first time.

And now he's being shoved at some random person and being told to help them get shown around for the first time. Doudanuki was never chosen to be the secretary, so it was never his job to show new recruits around the citadel. He was, after all, one of the least social of the swords, and this?

He grunts at the new person he's been shoved toward, eyeing them with a raised eyebrow and a bland look on his face.

This is why.

I can't show you around. [He pauses a beat and then frowns, admittedly looking a little lost.] I just got here myself.

( virtual research: robot crossing 2 )
[ He'd been told this was a training simulation. He'd been told it would assist the people here with their task. He'd been told a lot of things, but none of them had prepared him for the multi-colored fruit patch and the giant slingshot. Or the fact that he had to play a farming game to get out of here. Doudanuki's already typically dour expression deepens in a way he would have thought impossible as he regards the slingshot, the fruit, and the other person in here with him as he grumbles under his breath.]

I'm a weapon of war, not a damn farming tool.

[There's a bright blue fruit in the sling though and it doesn't look like he can pull it by himself, so ugh. UGH. He has to play along until he can leave. FINE.]

But whatever. Let's just get this over with.

( wildcard )
[As a newcomer to the city, Doudanuki gets to learn a lot of things by himself. Today? It's that he...doesn't...know how to cook.

Anything.

That had always been Shokudaikiri or Hasebe's job, not his. And the one time he did cook something? It was roasting potatoes under a pile of leaves. He's having a hard time finding that here, but someone has to know...right?

So here's a sword spirit walking around the city with an actual armload of weirdly colored potatoes, peering into yards and going up to anyone he can find to ask:
]

Do you have any leaves?

Fluttershy | My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - OTA

[personal profile] kindashy 2019-10-21 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
i. Buddy Brigade

[Well this is...new. A-And a bit, um...shocking. And terrifying. Oh yes, quite terrifying or a little pegasus pony in a big, strange, new place without any of her friends to guide or help her. Not only that, but Fluttershy is much too soft-spoken and, well...shy to say anything about being poked and prodded. She smiles, nods, laughs nervously, and simply does as she's told to do. Her question are barely audible squeaks, and when told to speak up, she loses her nerve and shakes her head. Oh, the pains of the socially anxious and introverted... If only someone from Ponyville was here. Anyone at all! She really is just a mess all on her own.

But, then again...she's not really alone. I mean, she was given a guide, a 'buddy' as it were, and she's certainly not against making new friends! It's scary, boy is it ever scary at first, but Fluttershy has learned that the payoff of new friendships always outweighs and outlasts the initial fear. So!! Just have to put her best hoof forward!]

H-Hello... [Her voice is mousy, like a squeak o air escaping a balloon, but her smile is kind, and gentle, though withdrawn. She seems tense, wings folded tight against her flank and ears flat and low. If she could, Fluttershy would probably sink into the ground with how low her head was.] It's, um...a p-pleasure to meet you, I'm sure. Um--oh yes, th-thank you for all the trouble as well! I hope it's not too much to ask for...but I do appreciate you all the same.

Goodness, but where are my manners? I'm Fluttershy.
---

ii. Story Begins and Ends With Us

[Oh, now this is so much better. Once she's got her bearings a bit, Fluttershy was able to actually be of assistance to others in this place. Now, she's no stranger to libraries and archives - Twilight's Library and her castle's archives her bountiful, and she's gone through several novels, and organized shelves numerous times reading and researching various subjects. Twilight's past time usually had them all looking through books of some sort, so she's happy to help with this endeavor. It's the least she could do! She was basically dragged around on a tour earlier, taking someone else's time away from them...

Instead of trotting loudly through the halls, this little pony instead hovers just slightly of the ground by a foot or two, gentle wingbeats nearly silent as she moves books about, updates and rewrites pages as best she can, and alphabetizes or reorganizes the tomes. It's a lot o work! But Twilight would go mad if she didn't put her all into it, and Fluttershy seems pleased as punch to get some time to herself for once. It's nice here... Quiet, and away from large, bustling crowds.

She hums a little tune, despite herself, wafting like a bird overhead when the books require her to go higher than just a few feet. She does, however, warn people below her as she's lying overhead, especially those on the taller side, tucking her hooves closer to her body.]

Pardon me...excuse me, please--oh! Oh, no, I'm terribly sorry, did I bump you just now? I apologize, I'm not used to everypon--um...everycreature being so big.

i. Choose Your Partner

[Now, this isn't new for Guzma. Different worlds, different types of people and creatures, it's old hat for him, and exploring comes almost second nature after the years he spent on Enso and the other islands in the archipelago of LifeAftr. He's ready to set out on his own, as he always does, but he's stopped almost instantly, told "no" and that he needs to be accompanied by a guide.

A buddy.

Really? The sneer that appears on his face almost matches the sigh, and how he pushes past the poor robotic officials with ease is...telling. He's not in the mood to play around. He has to see if he's the only one that showed up here, and he's not about to babysit anyone, or allow himself to be manhandled. Sorry, but he isn't a tourist here, and he can ind his own way perfectly fine. I mean, they gave him a damn map and a communication device - does he need a bottle and a baby blanket, too? For heck's sake!

But, these little, metal Golurks are persistent if anything, and he gives in almost instantly, just to get them of his case.]

Fine! I'll follow your stupid rules, just get off my dang back, will you?! Tch...y'all swarming like Durants up in here...and me without a swatter. [He shoves past yet another priest, hands in his pockets and shoulders square as he gives his 'buddy' a once over, brow raising.]

Yo, I'm peaceing out the first chance I get, homie. Thanks but no thanks, yeah. [Seriously, he's a GROWN ASS MAN. He can take care of himself. Hell, probably better than the idiots here think he can. Navigating a city is nothing compared to the shit he had to go through with the new islands that popped up back where he was before.]
---

ii. New File Select

This is stupid.

[Farming? Fishing? Where the fuck do these idiots think he came from before? Mother of Mew, when Guzma found an arcade - or what he thought was one - with actual, functioning VR, he nearly started crying. Actual, working technology above rubbing two sticks together has eluded him for almost three years, and he hasn't touched anything with a battery lie of more than a few days in ages. Electricity, hot water, RESTAURANTS, fucking plumbing were luxuries he didn't have on the island of Enso.

He should be happy, but this? This is all o what he was doing before just to survive. He wants none of it. What Guzma wants from a good VR experience is, you know...mindless, numbing fun. Fast-paced battles or races, a rhythm game, something with a little...action. This shit? It's dull.]

C'mon, y'all don't have like...Beat Saber? Duckling Hunt? Anything? If I wanted any'a this lame simulation trash, I'd slingshot myself back into the dang ocean and swim to Enso. Tch...!

[ Having come to terms with the fact that she actually and truly has been transported to another world, Kyoko all but leaps at the opportunity to **~peruse ancient tomes of mystical lore~** She enters the archives beaming obnoxiously, almost humming, but the cheer fades rapidly as each new book she peeks into reveals itself to be equally illegible as the last. ]

Huuuuh? They said this was a repair job, but this is just....

Wildcard!

[ Got something else in mind? Hit me up/PM! ]

[ Oh, isn't this rich. Dragged from a war and put into a city fresh from a siege where these priests are outright attempting to shove him against another.

He takes one look at you. One. And: ]

No.

[ One might hear a frustrated yell followed by the sound of a table being overturned, books and scrolls and pages and tablets all falling to the floor. Dimitri presides above the mess, glaring down as if the words themselves have slighted him. ] Absolutely useless.

[ His gloved hand sits smashed against the table, his breathing heavy, his brow furrowed darkly as rage continues to boil within. It is then that he notices you, and he lifts his eye narrows at you darkly. Got something to say, punk? ]

virtual reality
[ Logically speaking, fixing this world and unraveling its mysteries, aiding the gods by engaging in contact with others, or otherwise being a decent person would probably put him a step closer to returning to his own. However, Dimitri isn't a decent person, certainly not now, and he absolutely refuses to become close to anyone.

Nevertheless, he's in this virtual reality playing a fishing game. What with being from a world with no such technology, he's completely swept away by it. ]
...The water. [ His murmur is gruff, hoarse. ] ...It appears so real.

i. buddy system

[This might as well happen, to be honest. Gobbet has woken up in weirder places (read also: grungy and disgusting and therefor much worse than this odd utopian landscape) than a temple full of robots. She nods her way through their introductions, smiling pleasantly and trying to take in all the information. It's...a lot. But really, can she complain about being warped out of Kindley Cheng's clutches?

(No.)

You might be surprised to find her waving hello lazily with an amused grin, rather than looking confused and lost like the majority of the new arrivals. But that's just her way. Her pockets rustle suspiciously, and two tusks protrude from behind her lower lip, but otherwise she seems much like any other young woman you might run across.]

Well, damn. Looks like I'm not in Kansas anymore, huh?

ii. archives

[Okay, a girl's gotta eat, that's just fact. And eating costs money - dora, the locals had adorably called it. So Gobbet takes the first job she's offered, even if it is boring and confusing in equal measures. She sits in the library with an open text in her lap and her feet kicked up on the table, chair tipped back precariously and brow furrowed in concentration.

After a moment she tosses the text on the table with a sigh and looks at the nearest person.]

Hey, can you make heads or tails of any of this? 'Cause this just looks like gibberish to me.

I. Buddy System

[Franciscus is still very confused about the place he's woken up in, his back still aching from the scars where wings used to be attached. And he's definitely suspicious about that wall surrounding the city. However, he figures it safest to play along for now, letting himself be shoved at his assigned buddy and waiting until they're hopefully out of earshot of the robots.]

How much do you know about what's going on here?

II. Archival Repair

[Now, Franciscus can definitely understand the value of this job. So he's got quite a few books spread open in front of him, reviewing and cross-referencing the information within. He notices someone passing by, and reaches out to take their arm.]

Excuse me, could you doublecheck this for me? [He turns back, and blinks when he notices the text within becoming clearer.]

...hm.
